In My Experience….

I’ve used this phrase, or something like, many times — we all have.  We use experience as a guide to understanding our world, our lives, and our possibilities.  It’s always good when someone has “experience” before starting a job, a task, or an adventure.  However, we must remember that our experience is limited — we haven’t been everywhere and done everything.  There does exist beyond our experience a whole universe of possibilities.  In Jeremiah 33, God tells Jeremiah that he will show him things he’s never seen or known, this is good news.  In the midst of all the stuff we deal with and particularly in the midst of long term struggles, we can lose hope.  “We’ve exhausted all possibilities,” is our last desperate word of despair.  Jeremiah reminds us that this is not true, there are more possibilities.  Keep this in mind this year.  When the tape in your head seems to be set on repeat and the same ideas are played over and over, maybe it’s time to find a new tape — or better yet, ditch the tape and go digital!  Download from God some new possibilities.
